USA and Canada Payments & Collections
Local payments and collections in the USA and Canada.
Receive US or Canadian dollars locally, hold or convert the balance, and arrange your onward payment. Alpine FX supports business receipts, property transfers and relocation funds, with direct access to James.
Receive USD in the United States.
Local USD collection routes include ACH and Fedwire. James will establish the appropriate receiving details through Currencycloud for the account, payer and amount, so a US customer or other approved payer can use the correct domestic route.
Once received, the dollars can be held in USD, converted into sterling or another supported currency, or used for an onward payment. This can suit overseas trading income and other supported receipts without an immediate conversion into pounds.
Receive CAD in Canada.
Canadian dollar collections can be received through the local EFT network. We confirm the receiving details and reference before they are passed to the payer.
CAD receipts can then be held, converted or used for a supported onward payment. Whether it is a customer invoice or another expected receipt, tell James the amount, who is paying and when the funds are due.
Pay locally in USD and CAD.
Alpine FX can arrange local payments to US and Canadian beneficiaries for supported personal and business requirements. The route is matched to the recipient, amount and deadline.
For a US property closing, we confirm the wire instructions required by the professional handling completion. An ACH routing number should not be assumed to work for a wire. For Canada, we check the required bank and branch details and whether the payment should use EFT or an international route.
Property, relocation and returning sale proceeds.
If you are selling in the UK and moving to the USA or Canada, plan the conversion of your net sale proceeds before the money is released. James can help establish the destination account, currency and payment timetable.
For a sale in North America, speak to James before giving receiving details to your lawyer, title company or other property professional. Large property proceeds may need a different route from routine local collections. We confirm the arrangement for your account and amount before funds are sent.
One person managing the payment.
You deal directly with James Croft. Start with the amount, currency and expected date. James will explain the account setup, source-of-funds information and payment instructions needed before you transfer money.
You review the exchange rate and terms before agreeing the conversion. Once the funds are ready and the required checks are complete, the payment is arranged around the agreed timetable.
Clear about how your money is held.
Payment and e-money services are provided by Currencycloud. Your money is ring-fenced from Currencycloud’s own business funds and held in dedicated safeguarding accounts. This protection takes the form of safeguarding, rather than cover under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
Questions about USD and CAD payments and collections.
Do I have to convert money as soon as it arrives?
No. USD and CAD receipts can remain in their currency until you instruct a conversion or supported onward payment. Currency balances do not earn interest.
How long do local payments and collections take?
Timing differs between ACH, Fedwire and EFT, and between receiving and sending money. James will confirm the expected timing for your route, amount and receiving bank. The conversion and any required checks are considered separately.
Can the same receiving details be used for every payment?
Use the details and reference confirmed for the particular collection route. Check with James before switching between a domestic payment and an international wire, or receiving a substantially larger amount.
Sending or receiving US or Canadian dollars?
Tell James the currency, approximate amount, where the money is coming from or going to, and the expected date. He will confirm the payment or collection arrangements.
